Success story: Rude Health Foods

A health food company will use a £50,000 loan from London Business Loans to improve their marketing strategy and increase product distribution.

Wandsworth-based Rude Health Foods Limited began trading in September 2005, selling their cereals at local markets around London. From these humble beginnings Rude Health Foods has grown markedly, now employing seven people, and with cereals and mueslis now available on supermarket shelves in the UK and in emerging markets across Europe and the Middle East

Head of Finance and Operations at Rude Health Jonathan Bouldin said a gap in the market led to the creation of the company.

"The founders discovered that there wasn’t any cereal or muesli combination available on the market that they wanted to eat. So from their kitchen they began to experiment with different combinations, until they came up with a mixture that both tasted great and was nutritious," he states.

"At Rude Health we continue to source sustainably-grown food from producers we trust. We select the best GM-free ingredients and create cereals just the way we like them. Our packaging minimises waste too; we use recycled, recyclable materials wherever possible. So every Rude Health breakfast will also give a boost to wildlife, hedgerows and farmers."

Despite their green credentials and fantastic product, Rude Health was keen to “increase distribution, marketing, promotion and work on product lines” but "while we are gradually growing, the current economic climate is making things a little tougher."

Having recognised how their business could grow through an injection of finance, the business approached GLE oneLondon, a London Business Loans backed Community Development Finance Institution. Following a simple process, Rude Health Foods accessed a £50,000 loan to keep their business growing during this tough economic climate.
